Sheriff deputies search for an armed suspect in Iowa Hill, California

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Placer County deputies are searching for an armed suspect who was last seen in the Iowa Hill area, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Officers are searching for 44-year-old Derek Spencer who is wanted for pointing a firearm at people in Placer County in addition to other felonies.

When Spencer was found by deputies this morning he rammed into one of their patrol vehicles before fleeing the area.

Later shooting at law enforcement officers and a sheriff's officer helicopter, according to officials.

As of now, no officers have been injured in the pursuit for the suspect.

Residents in the Iowa Hill area are being asked to lock their doors and remain inside.

Officer Elise Soviar said the forest and hills were making it very difficult to search for the suspect.

Spencer is described as a bald man with a goatee, he was last seen wearing a black shirt.
