Princess Kay of the Milky Way gets face carved into butter block at Minnesota State Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (NBC, KYMA) - At the Minnesota State Fair, Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Jena Hanson, and her court are each having their likenesses carved into a 90-pound block of butter by sculptor Gerry Kulzer.

Hanson will serve as the official goodwill ambassador for the nearly 1,500 Minnesota dairy farm families a tradition, dating back to 1965.

Princess Kay's likeness is carved over the first two days of the fair, followed by one of the finalists' likenesses carved each day of the fair through Labor Day.

The princess being sculpted and the sculptor rotate in a display cooler and periodically answer questions from the audience.

After the fair, each contestant takes home their sculpture to enjoy for years to come.
