Six-year-old dead after being left in hot daycare bus for hours

CORDOVA, Tenn. (CBS, KYMA) - A six-year-old girl died Thursday after being left alone on a daycare bus for hours in extreme heat.

Her family said the girl boarded the bus Thursday morning, but never went inside the daycare after arriving.

She was later found inside unresponsive inside the bus and couldn't be saved.

Now family members are speaking out about the tragedy.

"No windows down, no door even cracked open, no type of ventilation. I just I don't even want to imagine what she physically must have been, feeling," said Christopher Jones, the uncle of the deceased six-year-old.

Jones went on to say, "I mean, just the fact that seeing her and seeing the love that she had for her father just, you know, lighting up whatever, her father will try to get up and go do something. There she is, right behind him to go follow him. And I just it hurts. It really, really hurts because it didn't have to happen."

A tragedy that has left a family and the community asking for answers.
