ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (NBC, KYMA) - One person was taken to the hospital and two firefighters were treated at the scene after a large fire caused major damage at an apartment building in St. Louis Park on Friday afternoon.

Officials said the fire was reported just before 5 p.m. at Helix Apartments in St. Louis Park.

Traffic cam video from the State Department of Transportation showed a large plume of black smoke visible from Highway 7.

As of 8:30 p.m. the fire was under control with crews working to extinguish remaining hot spots.

According to officials, one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two firefighters were treated on scene for heat-related injuries.

Roughly 90 units were affected by the fire and the Salvation Army is assisting displace residents.

A city spokesperson said initial reports suggested the fire may have started on a third-floor balcony, but the cause remains under investigation.
