3 dead after boating crash in Minnesota

LAKE PEPIN, Wis. (NBC, KYMA) - Search and rescue teams from Minnesota and Wisconsin spent hours combing Lake Pepin, and on Sunday they recovered the bodies of three missing boaters.

Sheriff Joel Wener said, "Search and rescue boats went into the water and found three people clinging to an overturned pontoon boat."

He then explained after first responders brought those three to shore they learned three more people were still in the water.

More than a dozen agencies joined the rescue efforts using boats, drones and helicopters to try and bring them home.

The Sheriff said investigators believe the 27-foot pontoon boat with six people on board collided with a barge.

The Wisconsin Department of natural resources is now investigating the crash.
