Iran says Strait of Hormuz is closed

STRAIT OF HORMUZ (NBC, KYMA) - Iran's navy has now declared that the Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice, blaming foreign interference and unauthorized shipping routes.

As a result, striking a container ship bearing a Cyprus flag transiting in the strait.

The closure prompting a third round of strikes this week against Iran by U.S. forces.

According to U.S. central command, a civilian crew member is missing and the vessel is unable to continue due to a fire and significant engine room damage.

Centcom says the strikes are being carried out at the direction of President Trump.
