Florida man dies, multiple injured after lightning strike

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (CBS, KYMA) - One man was killed and three others were injured due to a lightning strike on Fort Myers Beach, Florida Friday afternoon.

According to Fort Myers Beach Control District, crews responded to a report of four people struck by lightning while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.

Nearby witnesses on the beach quickly rushed to the aid of those hurt by the lightning, and started first-aid efforts, including administering CPR until emergency responders could arrive.

Unfortunately the man who was struck directly was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics took the other victims to a local hospital in the area where they are recovering.
