Waymo temporarily suspends service of driverless cars during power outage in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (NBC, KYMA) - Waymo temporarily suspended service of its driverless cars in San Francisco during Saturday's mass power outage.
A fire at a substation is believed to have knocked out power to some 130,000 PG&E customers, triggering issues for public transit and drivers, including Waymo taxis.
Several cars were seen stalled at intersections around the city.
Waymo said in a statement it had "temporarily suspended its ride hailing services given the broad power outages"
As of Sunday morning, power has been restored to about 110,000 customers and crews were working to restore the remaining 21,000.
The exact cause of the outage remains under investigation.
