Two construction workers hit by boulder

UPDATE (6 P.M.) - Steve Welborn from Caltrans said since last week's storm, they have been checking for and removing loose boulders on westbound I-8 near State Route 98.

Welborn confirmed there were two injuries to contractors, with one worker who suffered from broken bones and one worker is being monitored.

UPDATE (4 P.M.) - I-8 eastbound lanes are open. It was confirmed two Caltrans workers were hit by a boulder.

One worker was airlifted with collarbone injuries and the other worker had cuts throughout their body.

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The California Highway Patrol confirmed Monday at least one construction worker was crushed by a boulder.

The incident happened on Interstate 8 near Boulder Park.

Eastbound Interstate 8 is closed off at this time.

No word on the condition of the construction worker.
