It’s American Red Cross Founder’s Day!
(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Wednesday is National American Red Cross Founder's Day.
The day marks the anniversary of the well-known humanitarian organization that provides assistance after disasters all across the U.S.
The disaster the Red Cross responds to the most is not natural or man-made; it's home fires.
Mainly made up of volunteers, the Red Cross offers up services to U.S. military family members, the needy in blood collecting and distributing in various educational programs.
Fun fact: The Red Cross was originally an international organization, as a woman named Claire Barton is credited with starting the Red Cross in America back in 1881.
You can celebrate the day by donating blood or voluntary at your local American Red Cross or visit redcross.org to find out more ways to get involved.
