‘Rubber Tramp Rendezvous’ begins in Quartzsite

FOX 9's Adam Klepp went to the biggest nomadic gathering in the USA and spoke to its founder Bob Wells

QUARTZSITE, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - The 13th Annual Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR) is underway in Quartzsite.

The event goes on through next week and is the biggest gathering of nomads in the United States.

It was started by Bob Wells, who started living in his van in 1995 and then started making videos about life on the road shortly after.

RTR has boomed in popularity over the years and is now nationally known thanks to the Oscar-winning movie 'Nomadland', in which Wells plays himself.

Wells says initially he was ashamed to live in his own vehicle, but soon learned to love it.

"Our society bases success on accumulating possessions and power, but you can live small and be happier and healthier than ever before," Wells said.

On Saturday, 'Nomadland' will be screened in the outfield of the baseball field in Quartzsite's town park.
