“Week in Paradise” winner announced, as Amberly’s Place meets fundraising goal

FOX 9's Adam Klepp reports

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Amberly’s Place, along with support from the Yuma community, has helped over three thousand victims of abuse.

Saturday was the end of their biggest fundraiser of the year.

They exceeded their goal of $50,000, all of that money coming from the Yuma community.

As Ecexutive Director Tori Bourguignon says this year's fundraiser was particularly important.

“We’re feeling the effects of the economy. We’re feeling the cost of gas prices going up. All of that increases the cost of doing business," aid.

The money raised will go toward food, baby formula, bus tickets, hotel rooms, and whatever else victims of violence need to get them through their time of need.

Jillinda Freeman, a board member, says she wants the community to continue to support Amberly's Place, and learn more about the services they offer.

“I invite the public to come to Amberly's Place, take a tour, learn more about the ways we help the Yuma community," Freeman said.

Bourguignon said she knows Amberly's Place isn’t the only non-profit feeling the economic pinch.

“To be able to reach our goal this year speaks volumes about the community,” she said.

Now as for the winner of the Week in Paradise, congratulations to Charles Lakin.
