Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with green and pouring your favorite tall one
(KYMA, KECY) - Today is Saint Patrick's Day, a time when many Americans celebrate their Irish heritage -- or at least pretend they have Irish heritage.
March 17th marks the assumed date of Saint Patrick's death 1,500 years ago.
About 33 million Americans self-identify as being of Irish ancestry, according to U.S. census data which is five times the number of people on the actual island of Ireland.
The traditional wearing of green and joining in the revelry will pick back up again this year with the easing of many Covid restrictions with hundreds of parades across America to celebrate.
But regardless you can celebrate with a Guinness and some corned beef and cabbage at home.
Speaking of Guinness, Saint Patrick's day likely involves raising a glass of your favorite Irish drink.
For many people, that means a pint of Guinness and whether you knew it or not, there's actually an art to the perfect pour of Ireland's famous dark brew.
Apparently it's a six-step process.
- First, Guinness is always poured into what's known as a gravity glass to help enhance its taste.
- Second, hold the glass at a 45-degree angle under the tap.
- When it's halfway full, straighten out the glass.
- Next, when it's about three quarters the way full, turn off the tap.
- Then let the pint settle for exactly 119.5 seconds.
