Varsity Blitz Week 2

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Week 2 of high school football is in the books, with Yuma County and Imperial Valley teams kicking off their seasons under the Friday night lights.

In Yuma County, Cibola opened the year in dominant fashion with a 42-6 victory over Rincon/University. Gila Ridge came up short against Lake Havasu in a 21-12 loss, while Kofa fell to Maryvale 34-21.

San Pasqual responded to a tough loss last week, shutting out St. John Paul II by a score of 30-0. Somerton struggled in its opener, falling 48-0 to Copper Canyon.

Yuma High dropped its matchup with Cholla 21-6, and Yuma Catholic faced a tough test against Notre Dame Prep, losing 28-14. Antelope also had a difficult time in week 2, shut out 49-0 by Glendale Prep.

Across the Imperial Valley, Central came away with a 33-14 win over Palm Desert. Brawley wasn't as fortunate, falling 28-7 to Rancho Bernardo. Southwest dropped its opener to Calexico 20-0, while Imperial started strong with a convincing 49-6 win over Vincent Memorial on Thursday.

Week 3 action is right around the corner as teams look to build momentum heading into the rest of the season.
