San Francisco preps for Super Bowl LX

SAN FRANCISCO (NBC, KYMA) - With Super Bowl LX less than a week away, San Francisco is preparing for a flock of fans to arrive, bringing a serious business boom to the Bay Area.

Marc Johnson was all smiles when he reached this milestone, attending 25 Super Bowl games. He kept his streak going, and he flew from Kansas City to San Francisco, hoping he can attend his 27th Super Bowl at Levi's Stadium, even though he doesn't have a ticket yet.

"I come every year for the last 32 years to the city of the Super Bowl to enjoy the festivities," Johnson said.

After touring 30 stadiums across the nation, Johnson is also looking forward to checking out Levi's Stadium.

Passengers from all over the world arrived at San Francisco International Airport for a week of Super Bowl fun, including two men from Mexico City who do have tickets to the big game.

"I'm going to the Super Bowl. I have access to the game and opening week. I'm very excited," said Diego Cortazar from Mexico City.

Cortazar and many other visitors are turning the big game into a week long bay area vacation and that's paying off big for hotels.

"We're expecting $600 million in economic activity from the Super Bowl and that is great for the entire Bay Area...not just San Francisco and Santa Clara, but the East Bay Oakland and North Bay," said Alex Bastian, CEO of the Hotel Council of San Francisco.

Another bonus, Bastain says for every $100 visitors spend on a hotel, they end up spending $250 nearby, including at restaurants bars, and coffee shops, making the Super Bowl a game changer for the Bay Area economy.

Super Bowl LX is airing on NBC and Peacock Sunday, February 8.
