CBS 13 Sports: Olympic gold medalist LaShawn Merritt comes to Yuma

Yuma Special Olympics has swim meet at Marcus Swimming Pool, Gila Ridge hosts first-ever Hawks Nest Invitational

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - LaShawn Merritt, three-time American Olympic gold medalist, came to Yuma over the weekend for his "Sprint to Success" clinic teaching youth athletes proper running technique and mechanics, along with the principles of the "Merritt Mentality."

Dozens of athletes competed in the Yuma Special Olympics swim meet. All athletes will now look forward to participating in a statewide meet in Surprise.

Gila Ridge boys and girls golf teams hosted the first-ever Hawks Nest Invitational, playing against schools from the greater Phoenix area. Both varsity teams placed second.
