CBS 13 Sports: Lady Matadors are Region champs!

The Arizona Western women's basketball team claim Region I crown for first time since 2002

YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - It didn't come easy but the Arizona Western women's basketball team played with grit and determination to defeat Eastern Arizona 68-56 in front of the home crowd at "The House" on Friday night. The win secured the program's first Region I title and berth into the National NJCAA tournament since 2002.

Alliance Ndiba returned to the floor after a prolonged absence due to injury and scored nine of her 13 points in the first half to keep Arizona Western close. Ndiba would leave late in the second half with an apparent knee injury.

Also across the Desert Southwest, the Imperial girls basketball team prepares for their CIF state southern regional semi-final at Trinity Classical Academy.

The Cibola baseball and softball teams take care of Yuma.
