NBC 11 Sports: First 16u All-Star baseball squad prepares for tournament, summer league hoops continues

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - Despite prep sports taking a short break before the fall season picks up, athletes across Yuma and the Imperial Valley are still ramping up the competition in all sports.

For the first time, the City of Yuma is putting out an All-Star cast of some of the best baseball players in the area for ages 16 and under - which is set to travel to San Diego for a District tournament with the chance of reaching state in Oakland, California.

Yuma Criminals head baseball coach, Nick Johnson, is taking the lead by sporting a roster of many talented players mixed from all Yuma County schools.

Meanwhile, summer basketball is up and running - as Yuma Catholic continues to host its scrimmage league for girls hoops. Over in the Imperial Valley, boys basketball takes its course at Imperial High School, which is set to continue each Thursday.
