YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - Many local schools hit the mats Wednesday afternoon as Yuma, Yuma Catholic and Cibola each hosted wrestling meets with the winter season winding down.

Yuma Catholic won the day on their home floor, going 4-0 to improve to 34-6 in dual meets on the year.

Khel Lipumano (113), Dylan Andrade (126), Josh Rodriguez (132), Easton Jones (138), Hunter Hancock (150), Antonio Gil and Bodee Ford (165), Tayt Ford and Jose Jimenez (175), Trenton Bloomquist and Lorenzo Duran (190) and Juan Flores (215) all went 4-0 on the day in the big win margins over Antelope, San Pasqual, Parker and Lake Havasu.

Meanwhile, Gila Ridge boys and girls wrestling took down Cibola, while losing to Highlands to go 1-1 on the day and 13-4 overall.

It was also senior day for the Yuma Criminals wrestling team as they honored nine seniors before they hit the mat against Mohave and Peoria.

Joseph Bowen, Sabian Russell, Axcel Garcia, Raymond Nunez and Rene Cabrera won the day for the Crims as they went 1-1, beating Mohave 45-30 and losing to Peoria 45-30.

In local hoops, Gila Ridge won the day over Kofa on both the boys and girls side.

The Hawk boys team were led by Angel Mendoza and Justin Erath in the 56-45 win on the road. Kofa was led by Joaquin Anaya's 22 points in the loss.

The Lady Hawks bounced back from a loss to Cibola by beating the Kings 53-20, led by 22 points from Bella DeCorse.

Plus, the Arizona Western hoops squads had a good day, cruising by Yavapai on both the men's and women's sides to get back in the win column. Both teams entered the night on a two-game skid after a tough four-game road trip following the winter break.

They will both be back in action at home on Saturday.
