NBC 11 Sports: Hawks and Raiders clash in multiple sports with postseason rankings on the line, Yuma Catholic hoops roll again

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - As the winter season carries on, each game becomes more crucial than the last in a push for the playoffs.

Tuesday night would feature a host of crosstown battles on both the hardwood and soccer pitch between Gila Ridge and Cibola on the boys and girls side. Most notably Cibola girls basketball with an impressive No. 12 rank in 6A holding onto a spot in the Open Division, along with Gila Ridge girls soccer holding their own at No. 18 in 6A soccer.

At the end of the night, the Raiders would claim three of the four games - with the lone Hawk win going to the girls soccer squad, only improving their state rank in a 4-0 win.

Yuma Catholic girls and boys basketball continued their hot streak and kept their high 3A rankings in check, each routing River Valley in dominate fashion. The girls "Big Three" of Reese Sellers, Rian Martinez and Amanda Wiley once again combined for 46 of the team's points on way to an astounding 82-8 victory.

The boys followed that up with a commanding 70-27 win as Braden Moore, Fernando Vasquez, Sebi Patane and Lucky Patane each contributed double-digit scoring en route to their 16th victory on the year.

Kofa soccer also put on another show with Arlene Meza and Tiernan Nicewander stacking up the score sheet once again.

Meza led the girls squad to a 6-0 win against Buckeye where Meza added another hat trick, followed by two goals from Melissa Esquivel and one from Aleyah Lopez.

The boys won convincingly 8-2 on the road at Buckeye with five different Kings scoring goals. Nicewander led the way with another four goals which gives him 23 on the year to lead 5A. Other goals scored by Aaron Alvarez, Giovanni Villegas, Lucio Ramirez and Diego Contreras.
