NBC 11 Sports: San Luis boys soccer stays perfect, Kofa girls use four second half goals to win on the road & more
YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - In a packed night of local sports coming out of the winter break, San Luis boys soccer steals the show with an impressive 5-0 win over Kofa to remain unbeaten.
The Sidewinders took care of business behind a hat trick from Misael Meza in an intense match up between two great teams with some recent history.
San Luis now wins their sixth straight over Kofa in a head-to-head that has seen an insane amount of one goal games and overtime finishes over the last decade-and-a-half. In fact, Friday night's five-goal win for San Luis marks the largest margin of victory for either side since Kofa won by four back in 2013.
On the girl's side, it was the Kings who took the crown at home by scoring four second half goals after trailing 1-0 at the half. Arlene Meza led the way with a hat trick of her own.
In boys basketball, San Luis would weather the storm and find a way to beat Antelope. The Rams got off to a hot start despite Kenan Ragels needing to take a seat after being called for a third foul in just the first quarter. In the end, the Sidewinders won their second game of the year behind 22 points from Sergio Ontiveros.
On the girls side of that matchup, San Luis would also come out on top in a low scoring, 29-26 final. The Sidewinders a big loss to Antelope on the road just three weeks ago and picking up their first win on the season.
In more hoops action, Cibola boys and girls would take care of the Brawley Wildcats - the boys winning 68-39 and the girls notching the commanding 71-21 win on the road to improve to 13-6.
Kofa girls hoops trailed 21-4 at the half, but used a second half comeback to make it a game. In the end though, they would fall short 28-26 against Glendale. On the boys side in Glendale, Jeff Frazine's Kings picked up the 70-61 win, led by 23 points and 17 rebound double-double from Elijah Braveheart. Joaquin Anaya also adding a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Francisco Jimenez chipping in with 15 points, as well.
