NBC 11 Sports: Bowl mania thrillers, setbacks for Raiders and Suns
YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - College football on pro baseball fields and franchise players stuck on the sideline or on the way out the door - it was another packed sports day before the New Year rings in.
The Wisconsin Badgers survive an Oklahoma State comeback in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl at Chase Field (home of the Diamondbacks) Tuesday night, winning 24-17.
Going west on Interstate-8 to San Diego, a wild game at Petco Park - with the Oregon Ducks using an eight play, 79-yard touchdown drive with 19 seconds left and a doink-in extra point to beat North Carolina.
The Phoenix Suns getting bad news, as Devin Booker will be sidelined for at least a month with a groin injury. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks before a possible return to the floor.
The Las Vegas Raiders with even worse news, potentially on the outs with franchise quarterback Derek Carr. Carr has left the team to "avoid any distraction" for the final two games of the year after being benched. The next two years on Carr's contract with guaranteed money floating around, suggesting a possible move off of the quarterback.
Meanwhile, many local basketball teams hit the floor Wednesday in holiday hoops action.
