NBC 11 Sports: Top Plays of the Week, local football hits San Diego Showcase & girls hoops

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - An early Christmas special of some of the top local plays over the last two weeks, while action on the court and field now slow down into winter break.

Central, Calipatria and Holtville girls hoops all grab wins in the final day of the Valley Brave Winter Classic - Holtville closing the night out by beating previously unbeaten San Diego 45-42.

In more local action, several players from Imperial and Palo Verde football put their skills back on the field as part of the 9th Annual SDFNL Showcase Game in San Diego. The Red Starz team coached by Imperial's own David Shaw.

In regional sports, the San Diego State Aztecs prepare for the EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl on Christmas Eve, as they look for their third straight bowl win in a holiday clash with Middle Tennessee.

Plus, the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball squad stays hot as the fifth ranked team in the nation, beating Morgan State 93-68. Head coach Tommy Lloyd now tied for second with the best record through first 50 games in NCAA history.

#5 - Gila Ridge's Angel Mendoza with a pretty pocket-pick and lay-in on the other end.

#4 - San Luis soccer's Luis Mario Medina with slick fake, slide and boot into the net, part of his several goals on the night in a 12-0 win at Yuma.

#3 - Kofa's Adrian Gamez cashes in a long three at the buzzer to end the third quarter, in a 50-point win over San Luis.

#2 - More Kofa hoops as Joaquin Anaya scoops up a loose ball and delivers a two-handed slam.

#1 - Miguel Valenzuela strikes the back of the net for the only goal of the game in Cibola's 1-0 win over Kofa.
