NBC 11 Sports: Winter sports in full swing!
The winter sports season is in full swing across the Desert Southwest which includes a boarder battle between Yuma Catholic and Imperial in boys basketball
YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks opened their boys basketball season against the Imperial Tigers on Monday night. The Tigers had no answers for the Shamrocks from three point land as Yuma Catholic took the opener 63-54. The Shamrocks were led by Sebi Patane who finished with 23 points. Braden Moore added 18 points and Fernando Vazquez pitched in with nine points.
Imperial's David Scariano led all scorers with 30 points, he also pulled down nine rebounds. The Tigers struggled from the free throw line converting only 12 of 24 attempts.
The Kofa Kings started their season on the road at Washington with a 50 to 41 win over the Rams. The Kings led from start to finish, leading at the half by 14 points. The Rams cut the lead down to three points in the second half before the Kings were able to reestablish control. Francisco Jimenez led the Kings with 18 points, Calvin Barber finished with 16 points. Adrian gamez added nine points with five assists and seven steals. Joaquin Anaya pulled down 15 points with six points.
In girls basketball, the Kofa Lady Kings dropped their home adn season opener to Washington 54-19. Amani Montiel led Kofa with 10 points and two assists. Pebbles Braveheart added two points and yanked down nine rebounds.
