San Luis wins their third match in a row and Antelope stays undefeated.
YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - After knocking off Dobson in five sets on Tuesday night, the San Luis Sidewinders rolled into Kofa on Wednesday evening on a two game winning streak. Kofa looked to snap a two game losing streak. After jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the first set, Kofa watched their lead slip away. San Luis rallied to win the first set 25-16 and went on to win the match in straight sets.
Leading the way for San Luis, Fernanda Esparza finished with 7 aces and Abril Pena added five. In the loss, Kofa's Dyannah Torres had 11 digs and six aces. Leeza Jones finished with five kills.
Kofa will travel to Gila Ridge tonight to face the Hawks. Both teams are in search of their second wins on the season.
Gila Ridge on Wednesday had a hard time on road in Gilbert, falling to the Tigers in straight sets, 25-8, 25-10 and 25-6. Bella DeCorse had three solo blocks for the Hawks.
To the east in Wellton, the Antelope Rams defeated Yuma High in four sets, 25-23, 25-12, 21-25 and 25-18. Jaylynn Defries finished with 32 digs. Marissa Carillo added 17 assists and Jocelyn Guillen powered a total of 12 kills. Antelope hosts San Pasqual on Thursday.
Cibola dropped their third straight match to start the season, falling in straight sets at home to Desert Vista 25-7, 25-15 and 25-19. Kahlei Meza finished with 8 aces. Cibola will travel to Lake Havasu this weekend to participate in the Mary Jo Goldey Tournament.
