Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur takes responsibility after loss to Lions

PHOENIX (KYMA) — Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur took responsibility for his team's performance following a 45-21 loss to the Detroit Lions, saying the coaching staff must improve its preparation and execution ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

LaFleur addressed the media after the loss, emphasizing the need to improve the team's scheme, fundamentals and communication.

“We gotta have better scheme. We gotta coach the scheme better. We got to coach the fundamentals better,” LaFleur said. “We gotta provide obviously better clarity to execute those fundamentals and execute the scheme and then and then go do it.”

The first-year head coach said the Cardinals must learn from the loss and use the upcoming week of practice to address their issues.

“None of it's good enough and we get to flush this thing, learn from it and get back to work on Wednesday,” LaFleur said. “We got a lot to figure out between now and Wednesday and then, obviously go out to LA on Sunday.”

LaFleur also said he is not considering a quarterback change at this time, defending Jacoby Brissett and saying the veteran quarterback was not the reason for the defeat.

The Cardinals will look to bounce back against the Rams on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. in Los Angeles.
