Brewers rally past Dodgers to take 2-0 NLCS lead

MILWAUKEE (KYMA) — The Milwaukee Brewers rallied past the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

After a 2-1 loss in Monday’s pitching duel, the Dodgers looked to even the series Tuesday in another matchup between Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Milwaukee’s Logan Henderson.

Los Angeles took a 2-1 lead after a pickoff attempt by Henderson got away, allowing Tommy Edman to score from third base.

Milwaukee answered with the bases loaded when Christian Yelich lined a single up the middle, driving in two runs to give the Brewers a 3-2 advantage.

The Dodgers tied the game at 3 in the fifth inning before Freddie Freeman lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. Edman beat the throw home to put Los Angeles ahead 4-3. Milwaukee challenged the call at the plate, but it was upheld.

William Contreras brought the Brewers back even with a game-tying home run to center field, making it 4-4.

Contreras finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, delivering one of the biggest performances of the afternoon.

Milwaukee’s bullpen then shut down the Dodgers, retiring the final 15 Los Angeles batters in order. The relief effort included former Yavapai College pitcher JoJo Romero as the Brewers closed out the 7-4 victory.

The win gives Milwaukee a 2-0 series lead as the NLCS shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Pacific time.
