Bills edge Rams 37-34 in overtime thriller after blocked field goal

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KYMA) — The Buffalo Bills outlasted the Los Angeles Rams 37-34 in overtime Monday night, capping a wild finish with Tyler Bass’ 45-yard field goal after Greg Rousseau blocked a potential game-winning kick by the Rams.

The matchup featured two teams considered among the NFL’s top Super Bowl contenders, and the game delivered plenty of drama. The teams combined for 35 points in the fourth quarter alone, with six consecutive scoring drives to close regulation.

Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen accounted for 331 total yards and two touchdowns, throwing for 210 yards and rushing for 121. Running back James Cook added 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Rams responded with a strong performance from quarterback Matthew Stafford, who completed 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Puka Nacua had a career-high 17 receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown.

The fourth-quarter scoring barrage included touchdown passes from Stafford to Davante Adams and Nacua, along with rushing scores from Allen and Cook for Buffalo. With the Bills leading 34-27 late in the quarter, Stafford led a final drive that ended with Kyren Williams scoring on a 1-yard run with five seconds remaining to tie the game at 34 and force overtime.

The Bills received the ball first in overtime, but a fumble by Cook gave Los Angeles another opportunity. Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald recovered the ball, and the Rams drove into field-goal range.

However, Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis’ 48-yard attempt, keeping the game tied.

Allen then helped set up the winning kick with consecutive runs of 19 and 13 yards. Bass connected from 45 yards with 1:55 remaining in overtime to secure the 37-34 victory.

Despite outgaining Buffalo 454-436 in total yards, Los Angeles fell to 2-3 on the season. The Bills improved to 4-1.

The Rams will look to bounce back when they host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
