Padres, Dodgers, Diamondbacks all add at the MLB trade deadline
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Major League Baseball contenders made numerous moves ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, with the Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers all adding key pieces as they prepare for the stretch run toward the postseason.
The Arizona Diamondbacks strengthened their outfield by acquiring Lars Nootbaar from the St. Louis Cardinals.
In exchange, Arizona sent the organization's fifth-ranked prospect, right-handed pitcher Daniel Eagan, left-handed pitcher Sandro Santana and a player to be named later to St. Louis.
Nootbaar, 28, adds another left-handed bat to Arizona's lineup and has primarily played left field this season. The veteran outfielder remains under team control through the 2027 season.
Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres made significant additions to their pitching staff in an effort to keep pace in the competitive National League race.
The Pads acquired former Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray from the San Francisco Giants. San Diego sent the Giants its No. 4 prospect, right-handed pitcher Miguel Mendez, and its No. 9 prospect, shortstop Joniel Hernandez, in return.
San Diego also completed a deal with the Detroit Tigers to acquire former All-Star pitcher Casey Mize and utility player Gage Workman. Heading to Detroit are the Padres' No. 2 prospect, left-handed pitcher Kash Mayfield, along with Triple-A left-hander Jackson Wolf.
Both Ray and Mize are scheduled to become free agents following the 2026 season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were equally aggressive at the deadline after acquiring reigning back-to-back Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal.
The Dodgers added another arm to their rotation by acquiring starting pitcher Kris Bubic from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Triple-A pitcher Carlos Duran.
Bubic has been sidelined since May 14 with left elbow soreness, but is expected to return in September. Like Skubal, he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Los Angeles also reunited with catcher Ben Rortvedt, who spent the latter portion of the 2025 season with the organization.
