Devin Booker switches to No. 15 to honor father ahead of new season

Devin Booker switches his number from No. 1 to No. 15

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA) - Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker will have a new look when he takes the court next season.

Booker announced he is changing his jersey number from No. 1 to No. 15, a tribute to his father, former NBA player Melvin Booker, who wore the number during his collegiate career at Missouri. The switch also aligns with the number Booker wears while representing Team USA in international competition.

The change became possible after Suns center Mark Williams, who wore No. 15 last season, entered free agency, leaving the number available.

Booker, 29, becomes the 16th player in franchise history to wear No. 15. He enters the 2026 season coming off another standout campaign, averaging a team-high 26.1 points and six assists per game. His scoring average ranked ninth in the NBA.

The four-time All-Star will look to build on that success as the Suns aim to return to playoff contention next season.
