WNBA, players union reach landmark CBA deal boosting salaries and revenue sharing

NEW YORK, (KYMA) - The WNBA and the Women's National Basketball Players Association have reached a new collective bargaining agreement in principle after more than a year of negotiations.

The deal is expected to bring major changes to player pay and league finances. Reports say the salary cap will increase to about $7 million, up from $1.5 million last season.

Player salaries are also set to rise significantly, with top players potentially earning over $1 million for the first time in league history.

The agreement also includes a boost in revenue sharing, with players expected to receive close to 20% of league revenue, up from just over 9% in the previous deal.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert called the agreement a major step forward for the league, while union president Nneka Ogwumike said it reflects the league's continued growth.

The deal still needs to be finalized, voted on by players, and approved by team owners.

The WNBA's 2026 season is set to begin May 8, with training camp starting April 19.
