ASU’s Molly Miller doesn’t travel with team to Iowa

The Sun Devils head coach stayed back after falling ill ahead of First Four Tournament game

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KYMA) - Arizona State Sun Devils women's basketball is heading back to the NCAA Tournament, continuing a resurgent season under first-year head coach Molly Miller.

ASU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament after a strong showing in the Big 12 Conference tournament, highlighted by a pair of key wins that helped solidify its postseason resume.

The Sun Devils will face the Virginia Cavaliers women's basketball in a First Four matchup scheduled for Thursday in Iowa City, but Miller didn't travel with the team.

Miller, who took over the program after a successful tenure at Grand Canyon, has quickly turned Arizona State into a winning program. The Sun Devils enter the tournament with a 24–10 record, marking the program’s first 20-win season since 2019-20 and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.

All that is great, but Arizona State could be without its head coach for the opening game. Miller did not travel with the team to Iowa City due to illness, and her status for the matchup remains uncertain.

In her absence, associate head coach Stephanie Norman is expected to lead the Sun Devils on the sideline as they look to continue their postseason run.
