Murray finds new home in Minnesota

The former Cardinal is heading north to join the Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KYMA) - Kyler Murray has found a new home in the NFL.

The former Arizona Cardinals quarterback officially signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings, adding veteran experience to Minnesota’s quarterback room.

Murray, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, spent the first seven seasons of his career in Arizona. During that time, the dual-threat quarterback threw for more than 20,000 yards while adding over 3,000 rushing yards. He joined Josh Allen and Cam Newton as the only quarterbacks to reach those marks within their first 87 career games.

Minnesota brings Murray in as part of an effort to add competition and leadership to a young quarterback group. The veteran will share the room with younger signal-callers J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer.

The Vikings moved quickly during the offseason to strengthen the position, and Murray’s arrival gives the team a proven playmaker with starting experience. With his mobility and playmaking ability, Murray is expected to compete for the starting job while also serving as a mentor for Minnesota’s younger quarterbacks.

The addition also adds another former No. 1 overall pick to the NFC North quarterback landscape, as he joins Chicago's Caleb Williams and Detroit's Jared Goff, increasing intrigue in one of the NFL’s most competitive divisions.
