Black Monday hits Cardinals and Raiders
Jonathan Gannon and Pete Carroll got fired after their respective NFL head coaching stints
(KYMA) - What's known as as one of the most brutal days of the NFL season is finally upon us and impacted Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Jonathan Gannon and Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll.
Black Monday, the day after the final game of the regular season in the National Football League, is known as a brutal day for head coaches who are likely to get fired.
We'll start in our home state, where the Arizona Cardinals fired head coach Jonathan Gannon earlier today after a three-year stint.
During that time, Gannon went 15-36 during his rocky tenure, finishing the 2025-26 season with a franchise-worst 3-14 record.
In six of their final nine games, the Cardinals allowed at least 30 points, which did not bode well for the defensive-minded coach.
They now turn their attention to next season and the No. 3 pick.
In Las Vegas, the Raiders parted ways with former Super Bowl champion Pete Carroll after one season.
They also finished 3-14, securing the first pick in the 2026 NFL draft after swinging and missing on some offseason acquisitions.
They now have their pick of anyone in the draft, with all signs pointing to the Raiders selecting a quarterback with the top pick.
