D-backs avoid sweep with win over Angels

ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Diamondbacks salvaged the series finale in Anaheim, beating the Angels 5-1 to avoid a three-game sweep.

Arizona's offense came alive in the fourth inning, sparked by a key fielding error and capped by Jose Herrera's two-run double.

Blaze Alexander added an RBI double in the same frame, and Eugenio Suarez chipped in an RBI in the fifth.

Merrill Kelly overcame a shaky start, walking four but allowing just one hit and one run over five innings with six strikeouts.

Arizona's bullpen held the lead as the offense strung together key hits from the bottom of the order.

The D-backs head into the All-Star break having won just four of their last 12, but Sunday's win gives them momentum as they prepare to host the Cardinals next weekend.
