Ohtani shuts down Giants as Dodgers snap skid

NBC SPORTS BAY AREA

SAN FRANCISCO (KYMA, KECY) - Shohei Ohtani delivered three shutout innings Saturday to help the Dodgers snap a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Giants at Oracle Park.

Making his fifth appearance as an opener this season, Ohtani looked locked in from the start. He struck out the side in the first inning on just 12 pitches, topping out at nearly 100 miles per hour. He finished his outing with 36 pitches total 25 of them strikes allowing just one hit and one walk.

It was another step forward for the two-way star, who's working his way back into form after missing all of 2024 on the mound due to elbow surgery. While he's still being used in short stints, his command and velocity are both trending in the right direction. Nineteen of his pitches were clocked at 97 mph or faster.

Ohtani also batted leadoff and served as the Dodgers' designated hitter, but went hitless in four trips to the plate.

The Dodgers got just enough offense to hold the lead, and their bullpen took care of the rest, closing out a much-needed win on the road. Ohtani has now given up only one run across nine total innings this year, and his presence on the mound continues to give L.A. a boost even in short bursts.

With the losing streak finally behind them, the Dodgers will look to build some momentum as the series continues.
