Tatís powers Padres past Astros with homer, triple in 3-2 win
HOUSTON (KYMA, KECY) - Fernando Tatís Jr. scored all three of San Diego's runs on Sunday night, helping the Padres dodge a sweep with a 3-2 victory over the Astros in Houston.
Tatís broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning with a 427-foot solo shot to center field, launching the first pitch he saw off reliever Tayler Scott.
Earlier in the game, he reached on a first-inning error and came around to score, then tripled to open the third before coming home on a Gavin Sheets RBI single.
The Astros tied the game in the fifth, capitalizing on an RBI single from Mauricio Dubón and a Yordan Alvarez sacrifice fly.
San Diego starter Dylan Cease went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six. Alek Jacob picked up the win in relief, and Robert Suarez closed it out in the ninth for the save.
Luis Arraez left the game after a collision at first base in the opening inning. He was carted off and taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
With the tying run on second in the eighth, the Padres escaped trouble when reliever Jason Adam struck out Victor Caratini to end the inning.
San Diego has now scored 20 runs in the seventh inning this season, the most of any frame for the club.
Next up, the Padres open a three-game set in Detroit on Monday with Randy Vásquez taking the mound. Houston returns to action against the Blue Jays, with Hunter Brown starting the series opener.
