Diamondbacks outlast Cubs in extras to salvage series finale
CHICAGO (KYMA, KECY) -Â Arizona battled through two rain delays and 11 innings of baseball to beat the Cubs 3-2 in Chicago on Sunday, closing out a tough road series with a win.
Merrill Kelly allowed just one run and retired 16 straight batters before leaving with a leg injury, while Arizona's bullpen held strong the rest of the way. Josh Naylor delivered the go-ahead hit in the 11th, scoring Geraldo Perdomo as the placed runner.
The Diamondbacks tied the game back in the fourth with three straight hits, then leaned on defense to survive extras, including Perdomo's heads-up double play to end it.
Arizona heads home after taking one of three at Wrigley. They'll open a new series Tuesday at Chase Field.
