Arizona Cardinals

The deal is reportedly for $230.5 million with $160 million guaranteed.

TEMPE, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - On Thursday the Arizona Cardinals announced that the team has agreed to terms with quarterback Kyler Murray on a contract extension that keeps the two-time Pro Bowler under contract through the end of the 2028 season.

On Friday, Murray met with the media to discuss the deal.

"For me man, it's a blessing," Murray said. "I'm so grateful and honored for the confidence they have shown in me. The faith they showed in me to take a 5'10 quarterback, that's never been done before and I understood the heat they would take for doing that. For me, like I said I'm thankful, it's a blessing, for me it's always been about fulfilling my promise, which is to hopefully one day bring a championship to this organization."

The extension gives the Cardinals the stability under center they've long been searching for. If Murray remains with the Cardinals for the length of the contract, he'll become the second-longest-tenured quarterback in franchise history behind Jim Hart, who played 18 seasons for the Cardinals when they were in St. Louis.

Lining up behind Hart on the longevity list include Jake Plummer who played six years followed by Kurt Warner and Carson Palmer whp each played five.

"I personally feel like this is just the start," Murray said. "Over the past three years we've been able to do some pretty great things. All we've done is go up. I've done a lot of great individual things but again, for me the goal is to win championships and like I said I feel this is the start."

The Cardinals selected Murray Selected #1 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. The 24-year old earned NFL Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 and is a two-time team captain. Murray was named to the Pro Bowl twice in his first three seasons.

The Cardinals coaches and players will report to State Farm Stadium for their annual training camp on July 26th with the first practice on Wednesday the 27th.

The Cardinals first open practice is on Saturday, July 30th, as part of the NFL’s “Back Together Saturday” initiative at State Farm Stadium
