Mexico rallies past U.S. to win Gold Cup Final in Houston

HOUSTON (KYMA, KECY) - A packed NRG Stadium set the stage for another classic between two rivals and this time, it was Mexico who walked away with the trophy.

The U.S. Men's National Team struck first in Sunday night's CONCACAF Gold Cup Final, thanks to an early header from Chris Richards in the fourth minute.

But Mexico answered midway through the first half, with Raúl Jiménez slotting home the equalizer in the 27th.

The match stayed level deep into the second half until El Tri's captain Edson Álvarez delivered the winner a diving header in the 77th minute that stood after a dramatic review.

With the 2-1 result, Mexico earns its 10th Gold Cup title and bragging rights over its biggest rival. For the U.S., it's a step forward for a young, revamped squad, but the final hurdle proved just out of reach.
