Football world mourns Diogo Jota following deadly car crash

Shock & Heartbreak over tragic death of star soccer player and his younger brother in car crash

(KYMA, KECY) - Funeral services took place this week for Liverpool and Portugal soccer star Diogo Jota and his younger brother André Silva, who both died in a car crash on Thursday.

Jota married his longterm partner, Rute Cardoso, with whom he has three children, less than two weeks before the crash.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. local time on the A-52 road in Zamora, northwestern Spain, and was caused by a "burst tire while overtaking," the country's Guardia Civil said on Thursday.

The vehicle that Jota and his brother were in left the road and subsequently caught fire, officials said.

It is not known which brother was driving the car, which Spanish media reported was a Lamborghini.
