Yuma Fight League 8 set to make history with first-ever outdoor event
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Fight League is raising the bar once again and making history in the process.
YFL 8 is set for Friday, March 14, and for the first time ever, the promotion will host an outdoor live cage fight event, taking over Desert Sun Stadium at the Yuma Civic Center.
UFC fighter and Yuma Fight League organizer Kelvin Gastelum says the move to a new venue has been months in the making and marks a major step forward for the growing promotion.
“We were shopping around different venues,” Gastelum said. “We’ve done the fairgrounds the last couple of events, but now we’ve got Desert Sun Stadium. We’re excited — this might be our biggest one yet.”
Gastelum believes the outdoor setting will allow YFL to deliver its highest level of production so far, while continuing to showcase local and regional talent.
“We’re hoping to put on a level of production and talent that the city’s never seen before,” he said. “This is something special for Yuma.”
Since launching, Yuma Fight League has steadily grown with each event, building momentum and consistency in the local combat sports scene. Gastelum says the league has big long-term goals and is fully invested in making YFL a staple in the community.
“We have tremendous dreams and aspirations for this league,” Gastelum said. “We really believe it has a lot of promise to grow even bigger. We’re putting all of our resources and focus into making these events happen.”
Gastelum also emphasized that YFL 8 will be a family-friendly event, encouraging fans of all ages to attend and experience live mixed martial arts under the open sky.
Fighters interested in competing on the March 14 card are encouraged to reach out directly through the Yuma Fight League Instagram page, where they can submit their fight history and records for consideration.
YFL 8 takes place March 14 at Desert Sun Stadium, marking a new chapter for combat sports in Yuma.
