Southern Winter League to add first pro women’s baseball league in 70 years

Four-team Pro women's league to be first since 1954 as second part of SWL in Mexico

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - We all may remember the 1992 film "A League of Their Own" where women replaced pro players during World War II - and now it will come back to life in the desert southwest.

For the first time since 1954, there will be pro women's baseball hitting the field. This historic moment as part of the Southern Winter League taking place in San Luis Rio Colorado Sonora Mexico.

The women's league acting as an extension to the men's professional league that was announced earlier this year. It will be formatted the same with four teams - consisting of the Datileras, Pink Sox, American Girls and Sunkisses.

The league will kickoff with tryouts in three locations (San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix) in 2024 from late January to mid-February - followed by the selected players traveling to Yuma County and crossing into Mexico for the start of play on February 20.
