Brawley rolls past Coronado 11-2 in Division III Playoffs

Wildcats stay hot in playoffs, will play in semifinals Tuesday

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA) - The top-seeded Brawley Wildcats continued their postseason run Tuesday night with an 11-2 victory over the eighth-seeded Coronado Islanders in the CIF San Diego Section Division III softball playoffs.

Brawley leaned on strong pitching early from Daniella Yescas before the offense erupted midway through the game to secure the win.

Yescas worked out of trouble in the opening inning, striking out a Coronado batter to strand runners on first and second and keep the Islanders off the scoreboard.

Coronado answered with a defensive highlight in the bottom half of the inning when Fiona Ratliff made a sliding catch in the outfield before throwing to first base to complete a double play after the runner failed to tag up.

Yescas continued to dominate in the circle throughout the evening. The Wildcats pitcher struck out senior Tatum Munoz in the second inning as part of a seven-strikeout performance.

After a relatively quiet start offensively, Brawley broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning and never looked back. The Wildcats continued to pile on runs late to finish off the 11-2 playoff victory.

With the win, Brawley advances in the Division III postseason bracket as the Wildcats continue their pursuit of a section title.

Later in the week the Wildcats downed the Mission Bay Buccaneers 1-0, with the lone run coming in the first inning.

Brawley will play for a spot in the championship on Tuesday against Coronado once again.
