Shamrocks dominate Lions 12-0, advance in 3A Playoffs

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) -  The Shamrocks left no doubt Tuesday night.

Yuma Catholic Shamrocks baseball delivered a dominant performance on their home field, shutting out Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions baseball 12-0 in a non-conference matchup that ended early due to the run rule.

Yuma Catholic wasted no time setting the tone. The Shamrocks plated two runs in the first inning before erupting for six more in the second, quickly creating separation. They stayed aggressive at the plate, adding three runs in the third and another in the fourth to cap off the scoring.

The offense was led by senior Erik Topete, who had a perfect night at the plate—going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, including a home run and a triple. Hiram Silva also delivered in a big way, finishing with two hits and three RBIs, including a pair of doubles.

As impressive as the bats were, the Shamrocks were just as sharp on the mound. Jose Alatorre earned the win, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. Silva came in to close things out, striking out three in a clean inning to preserve the shutout.

In total, Yuma Catholic tallied nine hits and nine RBIs, while drawing five walks and capitalizing on hit-by-pitches to keep pressure on the Lions’ pitching staff. Defensively, the Shamrocks were steady, turning a double play and limiting mistakes in the field.

On the other side, Pusch Ridge struggled to find any rhythm offensively, managing just a handful of hits and failing to push a run across against a locked-in Yuma Catholic pitching staff.

With the win, the Shamrocks build momentum at the right time and move on to the next round of the 3A bracket, where they’ll host Tanque Verde on Saturday.
