Raiders rally late to edge browne 8-7 in comeback win
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Raiders found a way to flip the script late.
Cibola, coming in at 4-7 against a tough early schedule, hosted Browne at home in a back-and-forth matchup that turned into one of their most dramatic wins of the season. The Bruins entered at 3-3, and by the third inning, it looked like they were in control.
Tied 2-2 in the third, Browne broke things open behind a big swing from Jayc Garcia, driving a ball into the gap to bring home two runs. The Bruins kept the pressure on, adding two more in the inning to take a commanding 6-2 lead.
But Cibola didn't go away.
In the bottom of the third, Andres Lopez lifted what appeared to be a routine fly ball, but a misplay in center field, influenced by the sun and grass, allowed it to roll all the way to the wall. Lopez raced to third, driving in a run, and later scored in the inning to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Both teams traded runs in the fifth before the momentum fully shifted in Cibola's favor in the sixth. Jordan Schofield delivered a clutch single that turned chaotic, as multiple throwing errors by Browne allowed two runs to score.
What started as a simple base hit turned into a game-tying triple, evening things up at 7-7.
Moments later, Ryker Drake stepped up and delivered again, putting just enough on the ball to bring home the go-ahead run.
The Raiders capped off a three-run inning, taking their first lead of the game at 8-7. From there, it was all about closing it out.
Rodrigo Orozco took the mound in the seventh and shut the door with a clean 1-2-3 inning, securing the save and completing the comeback victory.
Cibola finishes with eight runs on ten hits, rallying from four runs down to snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 5-7 on the season.
