Kofa’s Whitacre nabs 100th win

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Somerton wrestler is celebrating a milestone that reflects years of persistence and dedication on the mat.

Kofa High School senior Logan Whitacre Porchas recently earned his 100th career wrestling victory — an achievement that carries extra meaning after a slow start to his high school career.

“It felt really good,” Porchas said. “It felt like a big milestone to hit especially since I wasn’t on varsity my freshman year. I kind of started late, so to be able to do this before my high school career ended means a lot.”

Years of consistency and hard work ultimately paid off for Porchas, who reached the milestone at a tournament in Las Vegas. A first-place finish there pushed him to 100 career wins, placing him among a small group of wrestlers in Kofa program history to reach that mark.

“Consistency and being coachable,” Porchas said. “Showing up to practice every day and listening to your coach — that’s what really helped me get here.”

Head coach Airam Moreno says the milestone is a direct result of Porchas’ year-round commitment to the sport.

“He’s worked year-round for four straight years,” Moreno said. “I can count on one hand how many practices he’s missed. One hundred wins doesn’t just happen — he earned it.”

Following the milestone victory, Porchas was celebrated inside the Kofa gym by teammates, coaches, and family members. A banner filled with photos from his wrestling career was unveiled to honor the accomplishment.

Despite reaching triple digits, Porchas says his motivation goes beyond wins and losses.

“I don’t really care about winning or losing,” he said. “I just love the competition — it helps me grow as a person.”

With his senior season still ahead, Porchas now turns his focus toward strong competition and a possible future on the mat beyond high school.
