Yuma Catholic Girls basketball rolls past Sabino, 74-18

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma Catholic continued its strong play Monday night, cruising to a 74-18 home win over Sabino in a non-conference girls basketball matchup.

The Sabercats made the trip from Tucson with a 5-11 record, while Yuma Catholic entered the night at 12-4 looking to secure a second straight victory. From the opening tip, the Shamrocks controlled the tempo.

Yuma Catholic jumped out to a 22-point first quarter and took a 37-point lead into halftime, spreading the floor and sharing the basketball on nearly every possession.

Junior guard Kylie Conley knocked down a left-handed three during the first half and finished with 15 points to lead the Shamrocks' scoring effort.

The Shamrocks were also effective inside, with Kimora Coleman finishing strong off an inbounds play. Coleman recorded nine points and seven rebounds, helping Yuma Catholic dominate the paint.

Yuma Catholic kept the pressure on after halftime, pushing its total to 61 points by the end of the third quarter. Amelia Borrallo added a three off crisp ball movement and finished with 11 points as the Shamrocks continued to stretch the lead.

Sabino struggled offensively for much of the night and had just four points midway through the fourth quarter before Alexis Jiminez provided a late spark. Jiminez converted a free throw and later drilled a three off an inbounds play to close out the Sabercats’ scoring.

In the end, Yuma Catholic's depth proved too much. The Shamrocks received scoring contributions from eight of the nine players who checked into the game on their way to the 74-18 victory.

With the win, Yuma Catholic improves to 12-5 on the season and will look for a third straight victory when it faces Odyssey Institute on Friday.
