San Luis boys soccer cruises past defending champ 3-0 in home opener
The Sidewinders physicality led them to a dominant win over the Desert Vista Thunder
SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA) - The San Luis Sidewinders convincingly beat the Desert Vista Thunder 3-0 in their home opener at the Snake Pit Wednesday night.
After losing in the quarterfinals in penalties to the Washington Rams last season, the Sidewinders have started undefeated.
Rodrigo Ortega got the scoring started, netting two goals in the first half.
Later in the second, Diego Torres found the back of the net on a near sided post shot.
Following the victory, senior defenseman Yeshua Romo detailed why the team has found early success so far this season.
"We've been working really hard, we've been, upping the intensity at practice, doing extra conditioning, suicides, full field, because we know if we press, we're just a better team overall," Romo said. "We already have the talent and the work ethic, so I feel the pressure, the intensity has been what's making us better this year."
The intensity at practice has definitely paid off as San Luis looked like the dominant team over the defending champs.
The Sidewinders' next game is against the Browne Bruins at home next Monday at 6 p.m.
