Scots face Bulldogs in flag football battle for Calexico

Vincent Memorial didn't travel too far for their matchup against Calexico

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) - Vincent Memorial High School put their foot on the gas after a slow first quarter to beat Calexico High School 34-19 in the Battle at the Border.

The Scots would come out swinging, cracking the scoreboard first, going up 7-0, where Quarterback Valentina Lopez found Jessica Manriquez.

But the Bulldogs would respond, marching down on the ensuing drive. They would be held at the goal line until third down where they dipped into their bag of tricks.

Giovanna Ortiz would wait until she got pressured to throw a screen pass to her sister Lizbeth Ortiz. She would make a defender miss and then toss it to Arellana Garcia for the score.

They would fail to convert the extra point leaving the score 7-6 in favor of Vincent Memorial.

With the 34-19 victory, the Scots advance to 10-3 (3-0 in league play), while the Bulldogs fall to 8-2 (2-2 in league play).
